Trump Dominates GOP
By: Jamieson Aldrich
(Source: NY Times, CNN)

Donald Trump astonishes America, repeatedly dominating the Republican Primaries around the nation. Bill O’Reilly states, “Trump's strategy is brilliant, but if you take what he says literally he can be a frightening guy". Trump continues to run an excellent campaign, consisting of basic conservative views, and the idea that he can totally restructure the economy.

Trump’s dominance does not come easily. Republican Super PACs have aired 8,500 ads against Trump before Super Tuesday, yet proven to be clearly ineffective. Eugene Robinson of the Washington post explains, “Attacking him with censure and shame is like trying to destroy Godzilla with electricity: It might just make him stronger”. The billionaire's campaign continues to be self-funded throughout the primaries as he believes, “My special interest are the people of America”.
Moving closer and closer to the general election, Donald Trump has a strong chance to win the nomination, but can he unite the Republican party and defeat Hillary Rodham Clinton? Critics question if Trump has a chance, but Trump thinks otherwise, “The last person she wants to face Donald Trump”.

Debris Found from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370
By: Katie T.
( Source: BBC, CBS )

The mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 had once brought up again when an American man had found a piece of debris that came from the missing plane. Since 2014, flight 370 had once been disappeared from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. With 239 people on board, there were no findings of any bodies or debris after the crash was announced. There were no reports on how, where, and why the plane crashed.  In March 3rd 2016, the piece of debris was found in Mozambique, South Africa by Blaine Alan Gibson. Malaysia's transport minister Liow Tiong Lai posted in Twitter that,          “ There is a "high possibility" that debris found in Mozambique came from a Boeing 777, the same model as missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.”  Tiong Lai and the Malaysian Aviation team are currently using Australian counterparts to retrieve the plane debris. The piece found is 3.3 ft long and had words ‘ NO STEP’ engraved in the bottom. Back in July 2015, another piece of the plane was found on one of the French islands. The team who found it had reported that the piece was indeed a part of MH370. The victims families’ of the incident are still seeking for hope that in the future, both the plane and passengers would be found one day and are safe.

College Behind Bars
 By: Daniel Vega

Sources: ABC news, KRQE News, Kapptv

In 2009, Rudy Madrigal committed a drive by shooting killing Ladislado Avila. Madrigal’s idea was to spend his 24  years in prison as quickly as possible, watch tv,work out and walk in circles with his inmates. Now,Rudy has taken the time and gone into the classroom.
"Since I started school and educating myself, I've built up connections not just with people in here but with people out there” said Madrigal. After nearly 2 decades since federal government dollars were prohibited for being used in college programs behind bars, the change is happening. The shift  is happening from President Barack Obama to state policy makers for they are  looking for ways to help the $80 billion annually on incarceration.
Private money has always been there to help out the programs. In Washington, there has been private donations for the prison programs across the state since 2008 which include vocational education in subjects ranging from computer coding to auto mechanics. Recent studies show that the programs cut crime and prison costs  and helped inmates  go home and stay there.
Now there are more dollars going into these programs, led by a  recent decision by the U.S department of education.Forty-seven states have applied to participate in the program, states such as Washington,New york and California are looking into spending more state dollars on these programs.
Another study paid for by the Indiana Department of Correction found out that while all kinds of inmate education has a positive influence on recidivism, inmates who take college courses have a prison return rate of less than 5 percent. That's compared to the national average of nearly 68 percent within
three years of release, federal statistics show. This study shows us that the programs can be life saving.
"Education in prison is transformative. It leads to safer communities and that's to the benefit of everyone," said Fred Patrick, director of the Center on Sentencing and Corrections at the Vera Institute of Justice,a new york nonprofit that gathers research and demonstration projects on criminal justice.
Noel Caldellis, 19, faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly using a .357- caliber Magnum to kill 21-year-old Jay Clements.Caldellis found out he can spend some time in the classroom instead of the weight room."It's helped me tremendously to grow as a person,"said Caldellis, who is working on a bachelor's degree in history.A Rand Corporation study on education in prisons found inmates who participate in any kind of educational program behind bars are 43 percent less likely to reoffend.
In 2014, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state would be putting money back into inmate education programs. Lawmakers fought the plan, saying it rewarded criminal behavior, but others pointed out how much less expensive it is to educate prisoners than to incarcerate them.It costs about $60,000 for one prisoner anually and a year in college prison only cost $5000,but as we can see,it’s helped more than one inmate on getting back on the right path.
California will be starting a new pilot project this fall to pair four community colleges with state prisons to provide classes. In the past, most California inmates going to college took online classes supported by private dollars.
Katja Schatte,a Ph.D candidate at University of Washington, teaches world history at the Washington state prison in Monroe, said criminal justice reform is intertwined with so many things happening in American society today from Black Lives Matter to inequity in schools.

"People should be thinking about how do we keep people out of prisons in the first place and education is the answer," Schatte said.

ISIS Operative Capture

By: Kyanh Mai
Source: New York Times, Unian Information Agency
The Elite American special Operation force has captured the ISIS/ISIL(ISIL is another name for ISIS) operative on March 1st 2016 , and is interrogating him/her (gender was not told). The interrogation will take weeks to months before finishing the questioning the captured operative. The American

Defense Officials say that the capture of the operative is very important in battling the Islamic state.  The Defence Officials have not or will say how much information they have gotten out of the detainee (The identity of the detainee is kept secret). The Defense Department has their information by them having the Pentagon  give the department an increase of information about the Islamic state. Also, the Pentagon may have to potentially re-experience dark images from the war in Iraq.  The capture occurred in recent weeks in Iraq when the commando operation was placed in action.  Along with the capture of the ISIS operative, the American Commandos has captured many of Islamic state fighters in Islam/Syria. Now the Pentagon has to possibly deal with the large group of imprisoned captives. Don’t worry, the Defense Department Officials states that they have no intention to keep the detainees. They say that they will be returned to Iraqi/Kurdish officials after they are done being interviewed. The detainees will not be kept at the Guantánamo (Detention camp, Military prison). Shutting down Guantánamo is one of president Obama’s objectives.

Ben Simmons
By: Tyrone Tate
Ben simmons is the point guard for the LSU Tigers. Currently he is known as the best NCAA college basketball. He is 6’10 and weighs 225 pound . He has an average of 20 points per game and 12 rebounds. Even though he is good, he has been having some problems of the court. He couldn’t be selected for the John R. Wooden Award. Even though he was a phonentonal player he wasn’t doing good in school. To be selected for the award you need to have a 2.0 GPA. That is around Bs and Cs, but I think he was focus on basketball a little more. But when they told him that he couldn’t be selected he was getting back on his grades and started to get his grades straight. But I think next year he would come back better and would be selected for the John R. Wooden Award. But overall he's know as the best NCAA college basketball player by the people. Even the best can struggle sometimes but they keep trying. That's what makes them the best, they never give up. So if you ever struggling don't never give up  because that’s what make you great.

M’s History
While the majority of the city is centered on the Seahawks and the Sounders, but there is one team that has been trying to win a Commissioner's trophy, the Mariners, they are part of the west division in the American league. They Mariners were made of an aftermath lawsuit in 1970, the first team was the Seattle Pilots in which were sold to Milwaukee in which they are now the Milwaukee Brewers, and the state of Washington then sued the MLB for “breach of contract”. Within a few years, a new team was then created and the name, “Mariners”, was chosen out of 600 names that were submitted in 1976 and also because of the marine culture in the city of Seattle. They, then had their first game on April,6,1977. The mariners have been owned by the chairmans of Nintendo. They used to play in a stadium in which they shared with the Seahawks, the “kingdome”, but in 1999 they started to build the stadium, Safeco field.  In 1995, they won the Western division title but later lost in the playoffs, they also won the division title in 2001 as well as breaking the winning record in MLB history, 116 wins, they were as well in the wild card race in the 2015 season.
In this offseason the Mariners have been busy, but there is one historical news, Ken Griffey Jr. has been inducted in the National baseball hall of fame while already being in the mariners hall of fame. 99.3%  people voted for him, he was the first Mariner to be inducted to the National baseball hall of fame, and the first in having the highest ballot vote in baseball history.

M’s U-turn for 2016

Coming in to the year, with a new team, new coach, and new manager, the Mariners have hired a new general manager, Jerry Dipoto,  in the last part of the 2015 season, when Jack Zduriencik was fired. Jerry dismissed the whole front office as well as the whole coaching staff this offseason, while keeping some coaches. He has flipped the whole organization over, dismissing  the coach, Lloyd Mcclendon in the ending of the 2015 season and making 19 signings in the offseason. That’s an incredible amount of turnover, and it’s evenly distributed throughout the team, that includes the 2 players, they re signed, outfielder Franklin Gutierrez, and starter Hisashi Iwakuma. In the 15 games that the Mariner have played so far, they have won 7 games and 8 losses. In those games the Mariners have had 519 at-bats with 150 hits including 13 home runs and 81 runs. The Mariners have a batting average of .289. Scott Servais , the manager has tried to make workouts and practices fun for the team, including a pool table for new players to interact with Mariners veterans in which Robinson Cano stepped up to pay for."We're not going to get consumed by it, but it does create some competition and fun around the clubhouse," Servais said. The Mariners have also invited, a mexican comedian, Domingo Ayala, cracking up the Mariners, “' It's been really, really fun”, described Scott Servais.

Teacher of the Month!

By: Rachel Nuam And Vivian Bui
DSC00348.JPGThis month, our 8th graders have voted for who we thought should be teacher of the month. The race was a close call but 3rd place goes to Ms.Britto, 2nd place goes to Ms.Lao and 1st place goes to Ms.Tran! Ms. Tran is a 8th grade Language Arts and the Journalism teacher. Students of Ms.Tran said that she deserved to be teacher of the month because “she is nice, chill and fun”. Another student agreed and added that “Ms.Tran is also very inspiring.” Special thanks and shout out to these teachers and all the other teachers for being the best they can be. Keep doing what you do and we hope that us SMS students aren’t too much of a pain.

Q: How do you feel about being the teacher of the month?
Ms.Tran:“I feel really honored to be teacher of the month. I love my students and so it feels wonderful to also feel the love from them.

Q:What advice would you give to students?
Ms.Tran: I would tell students that even when school gets tough or boring, or when they think school doesn't matter it's important to keep trying. Because even if your grades aren't something you're proud of, you would be able to be proud of how strong you are when you persevered.

Q:What do you think of teaching in general?
Ms.Tran: I think that teaching is the best job in the world.  It definitely gets tough and I could probably use more sleep, but I couldn't think of any other job I would want to do. It's truly a gift to be in my students' lives and to have them in my life. I feel so lucky to be able to see your personalities, your strengths, and to see you grow and learn.

Advice
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FAQ:
By: Odin’s Eye

“How do I know if a crush likes me?”

Talk to them, try to get to know them. However every person is different so there is no way of really knowing without asking them or getting to know them, remember your crushes are human too.

“How do I keep up my grades?”

Do your homework, it's the easiest and most basic way to keep your grades up as well as study for upcoming tests. If you really need help ask your teacher, most teachers are more than happy to help a student in need of a little practice.

“What do I do if people are bullying me, or bothering me.”

Know that you are better than what people say you are, and you are the only person who has a right to judge you. Tell a teacher or ask them to stop, tell them they are bullying you maybe they possibly don’t know that they are being mean?

I don’t need any help”

Great!

“What can you do to get better at something?”

Practice makes perfect. Try your hardest, not to sound cliche but if you actually try your hardest you can almost achieve anything. Put your mind to something and make it happen, it is the beauty of humanity.

What do I do if someone or something is stressing me out.”

Block it out, don’t let whoever or whatever have power over you. Listen to your favorite music or do whatever makes you happy. Don’t let stress rule your life, if something is too stressful take a break and do it later.  Fun fact: Stress kills brain cells.

Questions Answered:
By: Odin’s Eye

“I hate my friend what should I do.”
If you don’t like one of your friends it defeats the purpose of friendship, there really isn’t a point in associating with them.  If they are bothering you tell them to stop and maybe work things out. But really if you don’t like your friends just don’t talk to them.

“What do you do when your sister is secretly hiding something.” - #BOSS

Well confront her, maybe it’s serious and she needs help. Reason with her and maybe you can help her with whatever she is hiding. Usually people hide stuff because they don’t want others to know about it , maybe it’s embarrassing. If you know what your sister is hiding depending on the severity tell a parent and they should know what to do.

“How do I help a depressed friend.”
1 (800) 273-8255 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
Talk to them about it, try and relate to them. A symptom of depression is often self doubt. Most people who need help with depression just need someone to talk to. Be serious with them and talk to them, reason with them and show that you care. Another thing depressed people struggle with is understanding that people in fact do love them. However if there is any mention of suicide or self harm, tell a counselor immediately because there is only so much you can do. Above is the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, it is open 24/7 and open to people who really need help. It is completely anonymous and actually helpful.

“How do I get people it stop hating on me because of our culture.”
Racism should not be tolerated in our school, and is extremely shameful and understand that it is not your fault this is happening. Racism stems from bias and ignorance and at heart is because of a lack of knowledge. However in your situation I recommend you just tell a teacher about this.

“Dear Odin's eye, I am level 30 in a game called league. My friends say I don't deserve to be that level and it's bringing me down. I try my best, but I guess it's not enough. How do I become better with practice?”

It’s all about practice, understand that you need to grow and that everyone needs to grow. Ask a friend to help you (the ones that aren’t teasing you.) Learn from people that are good at the game, and watch Youtube tutorials. But really understand that you are still doing your best and that everyone needs to learn.

“I need advice with trying to keep organized and doing homework that I legitimately forgot about.”

Write a list of all the things (including homework) you need to do when you get home. Make sure you do the things on your list in a specific time frame. Ask your friends to remind you of what homework needs to be done. Also try writing in your planner it is more helpful than it seems.

“I want to join football this season, but I am scared that I will get made fun of. I think people would make fun of me because I am not a typical size player. What they don't know is that I can play. What do I do?”

Sincerely, Thor (Your son)

Life is all about taking risks. Try it for fun, if you really like football it doesn’t matter what other people say about you it only matters what you think about yourself. Also remember it is skill that wins games, if you know how to play it really doesn’t matter how big or small your body size is. Coach Morris (Who is the football coach) makes sure there is no bullying or teasing allowed on the team.

“My friend is attached to a fictional character. Like, REALLY attached. They love this character from a video game whose name is simply "Quiet" they worship her almost. I am actually worried as they keep spouting memes about her as well, second worst is their love for another character who is from an anime.
What should I do?”
-From Gilgamesh
Being part of fandoms are a regular occurrences while being a teenager, I myself am a huge fan of The Hunger Games. Fandoms are also healthy because they help people meet others while giving people extra interests and hobbies. So really just let them be, fandoms aren’t necessarily going to harm them, so what is to lose?
“Is it true that somewhere somehow a duck is watching me?”

I feel the same way, sometimes I can’t go outside for fear of a duck is watching me. Ducks are everywhere and all around us, nowhere is safe. BEWARE OF THE DUCKS!

“What do I do if I am depressed.”

Depression is something serious and not to be taken lightly. Every day reflect on yourself and think of one good thing about yourself and one good things in your life. However If you are in a state where you are hurting yourself or contemplating suicide, ask for help immediately. Once again here is a suicide prevention hotline, it is completely anonymous.

Latest shoes that everyone boy seems to want ! :
Tyrone Tate states that the latest shoes that every guy seems to want is Air Jordan 12 French Blue (2016)! The Air Jordan 12 French Blue may not be an OG colorway, but many adore it more than classic. Last seen in 2004, the popular finish is finally scheduled to receive its first retro treatment after twelve years, as the model celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016. HEY! You have to admit they are pretty nice :)

What to use? Girls Guide to makeup ! :
First off , ladies you don't even need makeup :/ were still in middle school! Sure a little mascara , lip gloss, and maybe even do your eyebrows  is perfect but you don't need to go all out on the whole foundation and concealer , i mean if you want to go ahead but just know you're already beautiful the way you are even if you don't think so :) This month on the ¨What to use¨ is a super cheap item!!! Now a-days eyebrows is EVERYTHING to a girl so for a cheap price of 3$ you can get yourself an e.l.f Eyebrow Kit! Actually I myself (Valarie Caruthers ) have an e.l.f eyebrow kit and I do recommend it , it's pretty simple to use and  its pocket size :) !

Tips For Staying Awake,
Especially At School
By: Kenia Soriano
(source: ) Seattle Southside,Tukwila Events, Shape Magazine

Do you feel like sleeping? Are you tired? Here are some tips for when you feel tired or need a boost of energy. And this does not include chocolate or coffee.
Stare at something red. Why? The color red, based on studies, it helps you stay on task. And by staring at something red, it could be a flower, your socks, anything red that will help you stay on task
If you were sad because it doesn’t include food, there is a tip that includes food. Just start chewing bubble-gum. Studies also show that it helps you fight sleepiness.

The last tip is the most easy one. Watch a youtube video, but not just any. Watch a funny one or something that interest you. And at the end you might actually end up dancing like Beyonce.

We all have a class where we just want to sleep. Or maybe you didn’t sleep well enough. Here are some things you should consider doing in these situations. First of all, actually have enough sleep time the day before. We need at least 8-10 hours of sleep, even though it’s hard, it will really help you have more energy. If you can’t sleep enough hours and already falling asleep, ask to got to the bathroom and wash your face with some cold water. Or go get a drink of water. Another thing you can do is actually pay attention to what you are learning. It could be by taking notes or participating.

Events And Places
In Tukwila

Maybe you don’t want to just be able to sit, there are many other activities you can do. On April 23, there will be a 5k run and walk along the Green River Trail at the Tukwila Community Center, starting at 9:00 AM. The registration cost $15 if you register before, and $20 that day. You can also bring your siblings, and it is free if they are under 10 years old, but they need to also register. Not only you have the opportunity to exercise, but also plant a tree.

There are many people, including me, that don’t like the idea of running or working out. But there is many other places you can visit. For instance, the Virtual Sports place. It is,or sort of like laser tag. Basically playing Call Of Duty or something like that, but in real life. It is open every day, but different times, It cost $15-$25. But it is worth it, Specially if you take your friends with you. This sounds like a place just for guys, but it is not. Incase you don’t like this suggestion. You can go instead to the Round 1 in the Southcenter Mall. This is a popular places, which most of us have gone to. But if you haven’t, you really should go, it has many options of what you can do. There is bowling, private karaoke, arcade games, and the most important thing... FOOD! It is open every day from 10 AM to 2 AM. As always, it is better to bring your friends and/or family to have an even better time.

Should people consider taking YouTube as a full-time job?
By: Leslie Ramirez
Source: Quora.com,Businessinsider.com and The New York times.

Did you know that YouTubers actually get paid lot’s of money for the videos that they make? You can actually become very rich from posting videos on Youtube. YouTube can be a very fun job to do and be easy money, but should people want it as a career?

Olga Kay is someone who does youtube videos for living. She began making videos in the year 2006.  Now, according to the New York Times she has said that she makes about 100,000-130,000 for three years now. That is a lot of money for just doing videos on Youtube. She has been very successful doing videos for youtube.

Now, should people want this as a life time career? Well a lot of young people have been making this a life time career and people seem to have a lot of fun doing this job. According to business insider Olga Kay doesn’t seem to be keeping all that money that she’s making. A lot of the money that she is making she is spending it on things like editing, camara, taxes and plus Youtube get’s 50% of what you are earning, leaving her with only about $21,000 yearly. So is being big on Youtube really worth it? Youtube should be something to do for fun. But sometimes people want to make it as a career, think twice before making this choice.

There are many pro’s and con’s on becoming a Youtuber. For example, privacy is less if you have a really big fan base. You have to communicate with your “fans” when something happens in your life. Also not everyone is going to like what you post. Many Youtuber’s experience hate comments that can lead to cyberbullying. For example, people are always commenting on there videos, social media accounts, etc. But with all these thing’s can also happen many cool things in your life. For example, you meet a lot of new people doing Youtube. You can also get invited to many events like, vidcon, playlist live, beautycon, etc. Also many benefits can come by doing this.

In my opinion, I think Youtube can be a full-time job  but only if you are young. I don’t think people should rely on Youtube forever. I think it’s a pretty big risk in taking Youtube as a lifetime career. Like I said before Youtube can be a lot of fun and a easy job, but would people want to watch your videos forever? Is your job  guaranteed? Are you going to be happy doing this your whole life? A lot of Youtuber’s start Youtube from a very young age like 11,12,13 and so on. But when people start Youtube they sometimes don’t realize that this is on the internet forever! Let’s say you posted something silly on youtube when you were younger and later on you’re trying to get a job. Your job can do research and see everything you have posted throughout the years of your teenage life. Sometimes that can affect your future. So, I don’t think Youtube should be a lifetime career.

In conclusion, Youtube can be a very exciting thing to do and an easy way to make money. But making it a fulltime job or career can be kind of tough. It’s not impossible, but also not guaranteed. If you really want to try Youtube go ahead make videos. But also remember don’t do it for the money but because you enjoy making videos for the world to see.
